The Professional Writing Minor

The Writing Program at UC Santa Barbara accept ieiMedia’s Berlin Project, led by former full-time faculty member Nomi Morris, as one of the three (3) upper division prerequisite courses required to apply for the Professional Writing Minor.

Students may complete the Berlin Project international reporting course after their First, Second or Third year at UCSB, in order for it to be applied to the Writing Minor. UCSB students do not need to pay for additional credit via ieiMedia in order to use this course toward the Professional Writing Minor — whether that be the Journalism track or any other track. Rather, a waiver form is completed at the time of matriculation, when graduating with the Minor.

However, if a UCSB student wishes to use this course as a substitute elective toward their major program, they will need to order and pay for the transfer credit. Please contact Nomi Morris with additional questions.

ieiMedia Travel Grant for UCSB

Any UCSB student or alum who would like to join an ieiMedia project will receive an ieiMedia Travel Grant upon acceptance.   The ieiMedia Travel Grant for UCSB includes funds to reduce the tuition by $300 for the ieiMedia Berlin Project this year. Plus there is a waiver for the $50 application fee.  The grant is awarded for use towards payment of the tuition and is contingent upon available capacity to enroll the student in the project.

Ready to go?

Fill out the Get Started form on this page or link anywhere you see the “Get Started” button.  Indicate you heard about ieiMedia through the UCSB Travel Grant Program.  You will automatically be awarded the applicable grants if you meet the application requirements and capacity be secured for your project.  The qualifying ieiMedia Grant described above will automatically be deducted from the tuition balance.

Gilman Scholarship

To date, four UCSB students have been able to register for the Berlin Project because they applied for and received approximately $5,000 in funding from the Gilman Foundation, a program that is administered by the U.S. State Dept.  Applicants must be Pell Grant recipients. Please contact ieiMedia Admissions for help in applying for the Gilman.

Note: Don’t Delay! the first Gilman deadline is very early in the UCSB academic year, falling on:

 Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
