International PR & Marketing in Bologna
In International PR and Marketing, students will capitalize on Bologna’s location in Italy, to explore the concept of Public Relations on a global scale. Through a series of field trips, guest lectures and networking opportunities students will have the opportunity to learn first-hand from leading communications professionals exploring the country’s rich food, fashion, and sports industries. Students will travel between Italy’s most dynamic cities- Milan, the capital of Italian fashion and Bologna, a world-renowned destination for foodies. Students will meet with journalists, editors, and book publishers.
Cultural Journalism
in Cagli
The Cagli Project is a deep cultural immersion in the beautiful Italian medieval town of Cagli in the Apennine Mountains. You will contribute to an ongoing ethnography of the community, by documenting the stories of its inhabitants. This unique opportunity builds both storytelling skills and those skills relevant to cultural immersion, including learning some conversational Italian language. If you’re interested in pursuing a reporting career in foreign correspondence or just writing about another culture, this program is a great way to begin.
Public Interest Journalism in Siena
People have long used communications for social change, but now an emerging academic discipline – public interest communications– teaches students how to do it effectively. Join us in Siena, Italy, to learn public interest communications concepts and journalism skills as we work with an organization devoted to helping migrants assimilate in Italy. Learn the theory and practice of narrative storytelling while gaining proficiency in interviewing, writing, photography, videography, and digital content delivery. You will learn how to use strategic communications for social change as well as best practices for creating ethical multimedia content. If you’re interested in using communications to do good in the world, this course is for you.

What makes ieiMedia’s study abroad programs in Italy unique?
ieiMedia programs go beyond traditional study abroad — they’re immersive, project-based experiences led by media professionals and educators from around the world. In Italy, you’ll work alongside interpreters, local residents, and fellow students to create real stories about your host community. Every participant publishes a professional-quality project, gaining global reporting experience and portfolio pieces that stand out to future employers.
What types of projects will I complete during the program?
Each ieiMedia program is designed around storytelling. Depending on your interests and program location, you’ll create multimedia projects such as feature articles, short documentaries, photo essays, or social media campaigns that highlight the people, culture, and issues of your host community.
What’s included in the program fee, and what additional costs should I expect?
The program fee includes tuition, lodging, excursion costs, and any program-hosted meals.
Are there scholarships available for ieiMedia programs?
Yes, there are many external scholarships that can be used for ieiMedia programs, including financial aid through your college or university.
Are the programs open to students from all majors, or only journalism and communications majors?
Yes, the programs are open to students of all majors and recent graduates.
Do I need to speak Italian to participate?
No, you do not have to speak the language to participate. Many of our faculty speak the local language, and there is an opportunity to work with an interpreter on some of our programs.
Where will I live during the program—are homestays or apartments provided?
Lodging depends on the location. Our Siena program offers a homestay experience, and our Cagli and Bologna programs offer shared accommodation experiences.
