Being a brava ragazza , or a good girl, is still important in the family in Cagli. Despite the changing sex roles, a good girl is characterized by her actions and the manner in which she portrays her image, said Lucia Braccini, town historian and councilwoman.

Maddelena Camilloni, a 20-year-old resident of Cagli, has said that a good girl in Cagli attends Mass every Sunday, remains quiet, and stays out of other people's business. A brava ragazza does not expose her inner beliefs and keeps private issues to herself.

The idea of a drunken girl stumbling through the cobblestone streets of Cagli would shame families.

Both Maddalena and Federicca Gelso, an employee of the grocery store Alimentare, agree that a good girl in Cagli should definitely be chaste.

"There is no need to stand out. You should remain on the lines that the village has because sleeping around will defame you. Everyone will find out and talk about it," Gelso added.

Braccini, on the other hand, had a slightly broader understanding of the concept of being a brava ragazza . She refers to this as disdi cevole , where someone simply speaks badly about you.

For example, if her friend were getting married and Braccini were to not attend and forget to call, Braccini would be displaying disdi cevole . This would give people a reason to speak negatively about her character.

In Cagli everyone knows everyone else's entire family, because families here are all intertwined. It is wrong for a young woman to portray an "ugly figure" known as a brutta figura , or disdi cevole , for that matter. Instead women are to live up to the standards of a "good girl."
