Shepherd farmer son becomes Stradivarius of accordions

CAMERANO, Italy -- Born to a shepherd farmer in Camerano in 1889, Silvio Scandalli, could not have known that his name would one day become world-famous for the production of premium accordions.
When Scandalli was a child, a small accordion factory had opened in town, spawned by Paolo Soprani’s accordion factory in nearby Castelfidardo, considered the first in Italy. Scandalli began to walk to Castelfidardo every day to learn the trade, and ultimately started his own small factory in Camerano with his brother Enrico.
