In one corner of a salon in Cagli, Luisa Violini is putting old-fashioned
plastic rollers into a woman’s hair. Ten feet away, her son, Matteo
Susini, cuts away at a teenager’s locks, creating layers in her
highlighted hair. A woman sitting with foils in her hair pages through
an Italian fashion magazine while sipping espresso.
These days, Violini and Susini work side by side catering to the traditional
and contemporary hairstyling demands of the Cagliesi people. This is a
look at two generations of a Cagli hairdressing family and how it has
evolved in the community.
