Rachele Kanigel is a professor of journalism at San Francisco State University, where she advises Golden Gate Xpress, the student newspaper, and teaches reporting, magazine, international journalism and media entrepreneurship classes. She was reporter for 15 years for daily newspapers, including the Oakland Tribune and The News & Observer, and was a freelance correspondent for Time magazine. She has also written for U.S. News & World Report, San Francisco magazine, People, Reader’s Digest, CNN.com and other publications. She is the author of “The Student Newspaper Survival Guide” and “The Diversity Style Guide,” a book and website that help media professionals write with accuracy and authority about a complex, multicultural world. She served as executive director of ieiMedia for two years and directed ieiMedia summer programs in Jerusalem (2013); Perpignan, France (2010 and 2011); and Urbino, Italy (2009); after teaching storytelling in Cagli, Italy (2007).
