Masaj offers a unique experience. Down a winding road in the woods of the small Italian town of Cagli stands Masaj, the local discoteca. Every Saturday the towns people of Cagli, Aqualagna ,Frontone and Fossombrone pour into Masaj to dance, converse and most importantly have a good time. The bumping music and beautiful people provide the ambiance for a unique Italian discoteca experience. Our night begins at 11 at Commercio and we arrive at Masaj-Meghan, Kelly, Luca(the Cagliese friend) and I- circa 3 AM. A little late to be just arriving, but Masai's doors don't close until sunrise.
There are two dance floors- the first is inside and plays house music with a latin mix flair. This dance floor caters to the fashionable crowd and the scene on the dance floor is an Italian version of the movie "Dirty Dancing"-fervent and exciting dancing salsa, merengue and simply girating. The dance floor leads to a large bar offering all types of drinks, including my favorite, succa de arancia e vodke, blood red orange juice and vodka. The floors are black and the chairs, lounge benches, and poles are white which creates a crisp style much in sync with the Masai clienetele. The girls are in mini's with stylish Italian heels far cooler than my Old Navy flip flops. The shirts vary depending on which style they desire to fashion, but the most popular- army colored, tight, midrift tanktop draped in mesh or netting material. Outfits that make my somewhat skimpy tank top seem Grandma-ish.

As for the men-Italian Stallion fashion prevails (see Luca to the left). The traditional Euro-code of dress for men: tight shirts jazzed up with different colors and possibly leather pants. The hair, in two words-Danny Zuccho.

Masaj's second dance floor is located outside, less appealing to the fashionistas, but attracting the laid back crowd. They play hilariously funny outdated American music spiffed up with a techno beat- my favorites include "Grease Lightning", "Zoot Suit Riot" and "Losing My Religion." We frequent the perimeter of both dance floors and find both equally enjoyable-having an interesting conversation at the outside bar or observing the dancing and smooth moves at the inside bar.

I am not a frequent club-going girl, but I love Masaj!- For the atmosphere and people watching and the pleasure in simply doing something new.
